No safe space for women in the EU, one in three experience violence

A third of women in the EU have experienced violence at home, at work and in public. Young women are particularly at risk, as they experience high levels of sexual harassment at work and other forms of violence. Yet, violence against women remains an invisible epidemic as few women report incidents to authorities. These are some of the findings of the EU survey on gender-based violence from Eurostat, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).

The EU gender-based violence survey  draws on responses from almost 115,000 women across the EU. It is the biggest-ever EU survey on violence against women. It covers experiences of physical, sexual and psychological violence, including domestic and non-partner violence. It also reports on sexual harassment at work.
