FRA is today presenting the first comparable figures on Jewish people’s experiences of antisemitic harassment, discrimination and hate crime in the EU. On 8 November, the eve of the anniversary of the anti-Jewish pogroms that took place 75 years ago, it needs to be acknowledged that while Member States have made sustained efforts to combat antisemitism, the phenomenon is still widespread.

The recent tragedy off Italy in which at least 92 people have died after a boat carrying African migrants sank, underscores why all possible efforts should be made to reduce the need for people to take such dangerous journeys, given the high risks of sea crossings.

The Council Working Party on Fundamental Rights, Citizens Rights and Free Movement of Persons (FREMP) discussed the results of FRA’s independent external evaluation on 9 July. The FRA Management Board’s recommendations resulting from this evaluation were also discussed.
