Článok 31 - Spravodlivé a primerané pracovné podmien
1. Každý pracovník má právo na pracovné podmienky, ktoré zohľadňujú jeho zdravie, bezpečnosť a dôstojnosť.
2. Každý pracovník má právo na stanovenie najvyššej prípustnej dĺžky pracovného času, denný a týždenný odpočinok, ako aj každoročnú platenú dovolenku.

1. Odsek 1 tohto článku je založený na smernici 89/391/EHS o zavádzaní opatrení na podporu zlepšenia bezpečnosti a ochrany zdravia pracovníkov pri práci. Tiež vychádza z článku 3 Európskej sociálnej charty a bodu 19 Charty základných sociálnych práv pracovníkov Spoločenstva, a pokiaľ ide o dôstojnosť pri práci, z článku 26 revidovanej Európskej sociálnej charty. Výraz `pracovné podmienky` sa musí chápať v zmysle článku 156 Zmluvy o fungovaní Európskej únie.
2. Odsek 2 je založený na smernici 93/104/ES o niektorých aspektoch organizácie pracovného času, článku 2 Európskej sociálnej charty a bodu 8 Charty základných sociálnych práv pracovníkov Spoločenstva.
Source:Úradný vestník Európskej únie C 303/17 - 14.12.2007Preamble - Explanations relating to the Charter of Fundamental Rights:Ďalej uvedené vysvetlivky boli pôvodne pripravené pod vedením predsedníctva konventu, ktorý vypracoval návrh Charty základných práv Európskej únie. Boli aktualizované pod vedením predsedníctva Európskeho konventu so zreteľom na úpravy, ktoré urobil tento konvent k textu charty (najmä k článkom 51 a 52), a vývoj práva Únie. Hoci tieto vysvetlivky nie sú ako také právne záväzné, predstavujú cenný nástroj výkladu, ktorý je určený na objasnenie ustanovení charty.
